News from The Stencilled Garden
November 2004

Dear Subscriber,

I do hope that this email finds all our customers enjoying the beginning of summer! I found myself leaving town the day after the kids got out of school - off to a training workshop - learning new products and just continuing my own education - one can never learn too much in this industry.

The summer has just begun and I already feel that it's not going to be long enough - so much to do and just not enough time. As summer begins, it's always time for me to prepare for the annual SALI convention (Sali.org) - once again, I will be teaching, exhibiting and running the Expo......that's a lot!!!

This summer we will also be making some changes around here - first, you will notice the class schedule is lighter than usual. (This is due to having very active children - and I just don't want to miss any games. Tyler will be playing All Stars Baseball and Ashley will be working on the Basketball and Volleyball skills). With the kids schedule and preparing for convention - it's just not leaving a whole lot of time to teach - but, the classes that will be offered will be wonderful, packed with lots of information and techniques.

The class schedule is not the only thing changing - we will be changing the name of the store, the store hours and all the walls, ceiling and floors - this means, we will be closing the doors for the month of September for the remodeling/redecorating and re-opening October 3rd!!!

With so much to do - I better get busy!!! Store hours will remain the same through the end of August - Thursday & Friday - 9am to 4pm and Saturday 10am to 5pm. Hope to see you this summer, enjoying yourselves while creating many stenciling and faux finishing projects.

See you soon,
Jennifer

  • Annual Stenciling and Faux Finishing Convention

This year the annual convention will be held in Baltimore, MD @ the Wyndham Inner Harbor. As I already indicated - I will be teaching two classes - Getting Plastered and Clouds, I will be exhibiting at the Expo and somehow, I will be running the Expo. The annual SALI convention is always a wonderful experience - meeting all the different vendors and seeing what's new - and an incredible selection of classes taught by the best in the industry. Expo will be packed with so many different vendors, showing us their latest and greatest...and I also have a very impressive list of guest artist that will be holding free demo's at Expo - people like Pierre Finkelstein, Sean Crosby, Dean Slicker and many more...Sure hope to see you in Baltimore - for much more information and details about convention - go to www.sali.org.

    New Class Schedule

The new class schedule is a little on the light side for the rest of the year - but, with all the "games", changes to the shop, traveling for work and possibly a "vacation" - there just wasn't a whole lot of time left. But, one thing you can be promised - is that your class will be filled with lots of information and hands-on instruction.

This class schedule has a little bit of everything - Marble & Graining workshop, LusterStone workshop and project classes - like painting broom handles!!!

Hope to see you in a class or two!

    Embroidery Designs

I'm always trying to be creative - not only in my custom work, classes and stencil designing - but, also in business. About a year ago - or maybe longer - I had approached an Embroidery company about licensing some of my designs for embroidery application.

This June, my first CD/Memory chip will come out - they have licensed 35 of my designs (my classic collection). I'm having some of the designs put onto different projects for you to see the possibilities - these will be created over the next couple of months. We will have the CD's or Memory Chips available to purchase - they retail for about $139.00

I'm not sure if I could ever express my gratitude to all of you - for making the last 16 years of my decorative painting business a wonderful experience. All the commissioned projects that I have had the privilege of painting for so many of you - all the students that have allowed me to share my knowledge with them - so many customers that have allowed me to assist with their decorative painting projects - and all that have incorporated my stencil designs into their creations. Each and every one of you have been a part in keeping us going, year after year. I hope to always be here to serve you!!!

Thank you for your continued support - please let me know if I can be of assistance in any way.

    Much love and appreciation,
    Jennifer, Jim, Ashley & Tyler

    We Are Changing

The Stencilled Garden is going to go through many changes this year - first, my store name will be changed to Artistic Painting Studio - Surfaces of Distinction! This name will better describe what we are all about - a decorative painting store and studio - providing training, education and materials for all the decorative arts. Along with the name change - it is time to have all the walls, ceiling and floors change too (even the bathroom)!

Over the years I have changed a few things in the store and added where the walls were still white - but, it's just too hard to get a little done here and there. So, I have decided that I will hire myself for the month of September and re-do the entire store and studio. This will be a very exciting for me - a chance to create some wonderful new finishes and just give the shop a whole new feel to match the new name.

When we re-open on October 3rd, we will start our new shop hours. We will be open Monday - Friday from 9am to 4pm. There will be more information coming about our Grand Re- Opening - I will let you know all the details soon.

P.S. - My stencil line - The Stencilled Garden - will always remain the same - same name, same Web site - and same wonderful designs. www.stencil ledgarden.com - hope to be adding more designs soon.

During this period of change - please feel free to call and we will do all we can to accommodate your needs - our web site business will not be closed and it will be business as usual for you web customers.
