 SoSlow™

One of Faux Effects™ newest products will help your glazes work better. Here in the San Joaquin Valley, we don’t have much humidity, but we do have a lot of heat – this mixture can make glazing walls a challenge (even with the best glazes). Faux Effects™ has taken this into consideration and has created an additive “SoSlow™” to add to your glaze; e.i., AquaCreme, AquaGlaze, Faux Crème Clear, Master Crème. This new product “SoSlow” increases the “open time” of your glaze – slowing the drying time down so that you can work on larger surfaces, dry and hotter situations, or just when lot’s of manipulation is needed and you need a longer working time. Faux Effects™ continues to work hard at developing new products – so that we don’t have to work too hard.

Materials:
AquaBond – Off-White
AquaStone
AquaCreme
Soslow
AquaColor – Autumn Brown
- Ochre Yellow
- Dark Brown

Steps:

Prepare surface with two coats of AquaBond Off-White – allow first layer to dry at least 4 hours before applying the 2nd layer. Allow AquaBond to dry overnight before applying plaster.

Using your application trowel – apply a layer of AquaStone to the prepared surface. Your first layer should be approximately 90% to 95% coverage of the AquaStone – this layer should not be too thick (approx. 1/8” thick or less). Allow 1st layer to thoroughly dry.

Application of the 2nd layer of AquaStone is applied in a “skip” troweled method – with approximately 80% coverage. You will be leaving “holidays” in the surface, exposing the 1st layer of AquaStone. This layer is an artistic application and you should be keeping an eye on the composition you are creating in the plaster.

After the 2nd layer has dried, you will sand the complete surface area so that the finish has a nice smooth feel. You are not eliminating any of the texture, just making the finish smoother and removing any rough areas.

Mix glaze color using the AquaCreme and AquaColors – approximately ½ tablespoon of Autumn Brown, 1 teaspoon of Ochre Yellow and 1 teaspoon of Dark Brown to one cup of AquaCreme – add ¼ to ½ cup of SoSlow to this mixture depending on how large the surface area is. Feel free to adjust color based on your desire and needs.

Apply glaze mixture to the surface using a large chip brush or the Neon Leon – scrub the glaze into the surface making sure to get it into all the “holidays”. Using a soft rage, you will wipe off the glaze in a polishing motion – this will remove the highs and leave more of the glaze in the lows – enhancing the texture of the AquaStone.

 HELP WANTED
 

Artistic Painting Studio & Design Center is looking for the perfect individual to assist at the studio. This will include many different tasks – including (but not limited to), class preparation, job site clean-up, maintaining a neat and clean studio, learning the Aqua Finishing Solutions™ and Faux Effects™ product lines and eventually assisting with customer service and in the classroom.

We are looking for a hard working energetic person that doesn’t mind getting a little dirty, enjoys working with people and will make a commitment to Artistic Painting Studio for a long time investment.

I personally have to admit that I’m a hard person to work for – I don’t believe that there is ever a time when there is nothing to be done. I like that someone can think for themselves and figure out what needs to be accomplished. I’m a perfectionist and expect that others will do their best work – I don’t ask anything of anyone else that I’m not willing to do myself. Most important – if you don’t know the answer to a question, that you are willing to do whatever it takes to find the information that is needed. Customer service is the most important thing at APS – and we need someone that is willing to provide wonderful service to our incredible customer base.
