As summer comes close to an end (at least for
my children) - we are starting to get the
kids ready for another school year (Ashley in
10th & Tyler in 8th). I'm sad as usual,
summer is never long enough for me (I'm still
looking for more fun time with my kids) -
but, my husband (Jim) feels it is time for
them to go back to school. Jim likes the
routine and everyone on schedule - I, well,
just like not having a routine!!!

SALI Convention
Once again our annual convention was held
last month and what a great event! This year
we were in San Francisco, CA (really enjoyed
the weather) and that was a nice treat for me
- just a short drive away.
It was a whirlwind of a week - seeing many
old friends and meeting many new friends -
putting faces to names (Atrium Online and
MuralsPlus members). There were many
wonderful classes offered during the week and
I actually taught two classes. Started off
Tuesday with an all-day class working with
the Art of Stenciling with decorative
finishes - this was an incredible class, I
was blessed with a classroom full of great
people. We were just a little challenged in
the class with the new rule of "no blow
dryers" - we decided to work through lunch
(ordered pizza) and we still ran a little
long - but, everyone worked hard to complete
their samples and we had a lot of fun doing
it!!!
My second class wasn't until Thursday - but
it started just a little too early in the
morning for all of us - 7am is awfully
early!!! It even feels earlier when the
night before was the Grand Gala opening for
Expo and we were all up way too late... But,
we were just about all in the same boat -
everyone was a little slow getting started
and then we kicked into gear! We made many
wonderful molding/furniture samples - while
eating Red Vines.
Besides all the great classes and socializing
that was going on - I was also involved in
the Expo (this was my last year as Expo Chair
- I officially retired from this position).
Not only was I running the Expo, but I had a
booth promoting my studio and stencil line.
The Expo is such a big treat, a great big
room filled with so many incredible
materials, products, studios and more.
Nothing like walking down an aisle and
meeting people such as Pierre Finkelstein,
Sean Crosby, Melanie Royals and on and on and on.
All of this was crammed into one week - no
wonder I was overly exhausted when I returned
home. Not only was I exhausted, but a dear
friend of mine (Pam Poole) joined me to help
out in my classes and at the booth - I think
I just about killed her off, with lugging
materials to classes, setting up the booth,
running the booth, helping in class, and and
and......Thanks Pam!!!
Next year, the annual convention will be held
in Charleston, SC - for more information on
