First remove any stickers/tags that are attached to the terra-cotta
flower pot. We recommend a product called "Un-Du" for successfully removing
stickers easily.
- Clean terra-cotta pots thoroughly with a wet rag. This is to remove all dirt and dust.
(Allow pots to thoroughly dry after cleaning before you start your next step).
- Apply a basecoat of Gesso (artist primer) to the pot. Apply the gesso everywhere you want to
paint using a foam brush. Basecoat the saucer too. (Allow gesso to dry).
- Apply the Americana White
acrylic using a foam brush to the base section of the flower pot.
You may need to apply more than one coat to achieve a smooth/even
base coat. (Allow to dry).
- Turn flower pot over and apply the Santa Red acrylic paint to the outside rim and the
entire inside of the flower pot. Again you may need to apply
several coats of paint to achieve a smooth/even base coat of
paint. Paint the saucer Santa Red also. (Allow to dry)
- Using the TSG flower pot
stencil - attach the Cherries Jubilee stencil overlay #1 to the
base section of the pot with your painters tape. Stencil the
pattern using Santa Red. Reposition stencil as needed to complete
the flower pot. Change to overlay #2 and complete the stencil
pattern using Evergreen.
- Using the TSG flower pot
stencil (Ashley's Tea Party) - randomly place the round flowers on
the flower pot base section using Moon Yellow. Complete the
flowers using overlay #2 and Evergreen.
- To create the checks around the rim section - cut a square shape out of the flat sponge
material - wet the sponge and watch it grow. Using the White acrylic - sponge on the checks
alternating them up & down.
- To complete the flower pot, we will use the end of a brush to apply the dots into the centers
of the round flowers — add them randomly to polka-dot the flower pot.
- Basecoat the ball knobs. Three will be painted with Santa Red and one will be painted with White.
- Again we will polka-dot the ball knobs using the end of a brush — black polka-dots on the
White balls and White polka-dots on the Santa Red balls.
- After all painting/stencilling is completed and the flower pot has dried over night - apply
several coats of the Right-Step varnish to the entire piece.
- Varnish the ball knobs.
- Using the 527 cement, glue on the 3 Red balls to the bottom of the flower pot and the
White ball to the bottom of the saucer.
Tip: * Be patient - allow paint to dry before starting the stenciling and/or varnish.
